Join Us to Celebrate "National Quilting Day"

Venue: Manston Village Hall, Preston Road, Manston, near Ramsgate, Kent.
Saturday 24th March, 10am to 4pm - plenty of parking! Cost: £3 (which includes lunch).

To celebrate National Quilting Day we will be working on two charity quilt projects. Come along and join in with whichever you prefer.

The choice is: either to help to quilt our Charity Quilt for the British Diabetic Association with Kay Horne or to make a Baby Quilt for the "Babies in Prison" Quilt Project with Terrance Gilbert.

You will need to bring.....
For the Diabetic Quilt: your usual hand sewing things.
For the Baby Quilts: your sewing machine, one piece of fabric 38 inches square (for the backing), scraps of fabric to cut into 3½ inch squares (all colours, patterns and plains) and a piece of wadding 36 inches square. You may also want to have (or organise sharing) a cutting board, cutting tools, cottons, pins and extension lead.

To book your place, please contact:
Kay Horne ( 01843 823849; e-mail:
or Terrance Gilbert ( 01304 367220; e-mail:

YOU SAY... WE PAY!!

It's that time of year again when we want you to ask us for money! All you have to do is find a workshop you would like to attend, we will pay the fee and then you write a short report for our newsletter and show us what you have made at the "show and tell". We are offering £50, so two friends could go together if you don't want to go on your own. The money must be spent on a patchwork, quilting, or associated subject workshop. Just ring Kay Horne on ( 01843 823849 and ask! Or to e-mail her .

PROJECT LINUS

We have a new Project Linus representative in the area. She is Ann Fordham, who has joined Abbey Patchers and is keen to get the project off the ground locally.

Project Linus began in the USA in 1995 and is named after the security blanket addict in the Peanuts comic strip. Project Linus came to the UK in 2000 and welcomes new handmade quilts in sizes 21x24 for premature babies to 40x60 for older children and young adults. But the size is not critical as they go to children of all ages. However, they must be washable, have no embellishments and have been made in a smoke free environment. Originally targeting paediatric cancer patients, Project Linus has broadened its focus towards seriously ill and traumatised children and young people and as far as possible, and according to demand, will remain in our local area.

For more information, call Ann Fordham on ( 01304 619519 or e-mail her .

A Safety Reminder

Thanet and District Quilters no longer has Public Liability Insurance. So, when at Church House for our Meetings, please ensure you keep yourself safe.

Quilts for Babies in Prison

Members of Thanet quilting groups are keen supporters of a scheme to provide small quilts for babies who are with their mothers in prison.

The "Babies in Prison" project is organised by Canterbury Volunteer Centre, a registered charity which is based at Tower Works, Simmonds Road, Wincheap Business Park, Canterbury CT1 3RA.

Your can see their website at: www.canterburyvolunteercentre.org .

This Year's Charity

Thanet and District Quilters chosen charity for the current year is Diabetes UK. This is the largest organisation in the UK working for people with diabetes, funding research, campaigning and helping people live with the condition. See their website at: www.diabetes.org.uk/.
